Walnuts May Help Fight Alzheimer's Disease

Walnuts May Help Fight Alzheimer's DiseaseAccording to researchers, walnuts may help combat Alzheimer.

The research was headed by Abha Chauhan.

Researchers said that walnuts may have a beneficial effect in cutting the risk, holding up the beginning or slowing the process of Alzheimer's disease.

The research was carried out on mice with Alzheimer's disease- a few of them were given walnuts and they kept their mental skills up where as mice deprived of them suffered a dramatic loss in learning, memory and physical and emotional control.

As the study is conducted on mice, professor Clive Ballard, of the Alzheimer's Society, stated, "Walnuts are high in antioxidants and omega 3 fatty acids. However, as this research is carried out on mice, we cannot say for certain the benefits of a walnut-rich diet for humans." (With Inputs from Agencies)
