YouTube hits ‘one billion’ milestone for monthly unique users

YouTube hits ‘one billion’ milestone for monthly unique usersIn a Thursday post on its official blog, Google's popular video-sharing site YouTube revealed that it has hit the `one billion monthly unique users' milestone; with the growth of the site in recent times being chiefly a result of the changing content consumption habits of the new `Generation C' group of users who are defined by their age-group as well as their connected behavior.

To give a more comprehensive understanding of the vast reach of the site, YouTube said in the blog post that nearly 50 percent on the Internet visit the video-sharing site, which is the biggest video-sharing site in the world.

The post further said that the monthly viewership of YouTube is equivalent of approximately 10 Super Bowl audiences; and also pointed out that if YouTube were a country, it would be the world's third most-populated country after China and India.

Noting that "tens of thousands of partners have created channels that have found and built businesses for passionate, engaged audiences," the blog post, addressing the fervent YouTube users worldwide, said: "Thank you for making YouTube what it is today. You have truly created something special."

Meanwhile, in another blog post which mostly involved a mention of Generation C - which YouTube considers as its core audience - and mobile devices, YouTube said that the Generation C group of users has grown up consuming content "where and when they want;" and added that 67 percent of Generation C watch YouTube on two or more devices.
