3G-Spectrum Auction Issue Expected To Be Resolved Within Week’s Time, Says RajaTelecom Minister A. Raja announced that 3G-spectrum auctioning issue is expected to be resolved within week's time.

Previosly, Finance Secretary Ashok Chawla has stated that the administration was not definite if it could carry out a 3G wireless spectrum auction before the end of the existing financial.

The current fiscal completes on March 31, 2010.

On the sidelines of the launch of BSNL 3G mobile services in Bangalore, Raja declared, "I hope everything will be resolved this week. It is not the question of money alone. It is the question of utilising the technology. We should not be lagging behind the international community."

"Indian administration is committed, whether it is money, whether it is regulation. All together, Government of India is committed to have this technology at the earliest possible," Mr. Raja added.

The administration was likely to finish the 3G-auction by the coming month, and it had figured in July 2009 the spectrum allotment could lift up to Rs 350 billion.

If the auction gets postponed beyond March 31, the country's fiscal deficit might surpass the presently estimated 6.8% of the 2009-10 gross domestic product (GDP). (With Input from Agencies)
