Agreement for measures to improve traffic flow on Delhi-Gurgaon expressway

Delhi-Gurgaon-expresswayThe National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the contractor and the project financier have entered into an agreement to take steps to improve the flow of traffic on the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway.

New measures will be introduced on the expressway to improve traffic conditions after a series of disagreements and an order to cancel the contract itself. The NHAI had issued an order terminating the contract with Delhi-Gurgaon Super Connectivity Ltd (DGSCL). The authority has informed the Delhi High Court that it is withdrawing the order after reaching an agreement with the contractor.

Infrastructure Development Finance Company Ltd (IDFC), which is the price financer of the project, also signed the memorandum of understanding with the authority. The NHAI, DGSCL, Haryana government departments and Gurgaon police are scheduled to hold a meeting on Wednesday to make improvements on the functioning of the toll plaza.

The measures agreed upon in the memorandum will be implemented in the medium to long term on the expressway. The measures will also be presented to the Punjab and Haryana high court that ordered the contractor to stop collecting the toll for two weeks as a penalty for not improving conditions to avoid traffic jams on the stretch.
