Maruti Suzuki India said that it is planning to come up with a new variant of its car- Alto. India's largest automaker said that the new version is going to have a bigger engine and expected to be the highest selling model in India. Industry people also expected that the company will launch the new car with a one-liter petrol engine.

This will be, they said, going to be one of the long list of latest generation engines that Maruti is planning to come out with. The name of these engines has been kept as K-series. In April, the company introduced BS IV compliant of Alto's existing engine.

Talking to media, R C Bhargava, Chairman of Maruti said that Alto wanted a face lift. And there could be nothing better that a new engine. No details as to when the engine will be launched were given. But he said that with a bigger K-series engine the car will become costlier than it is now. From Rs. 2.29 lakh the price will now be Rs. 2.8 lakh. As of now, Alto is considered to be the best-selling model with monthly sale of 20,000 units.
