Amazon.com decides to re-shelf Macmillan books for direct sale

Amazon.com decides to re-shelf Macmillan books for direct saleAmazon. com Incorporation, the America based e-commerce company, has decided to go back on selling the e-books by Macmillian authors. The company has been halting the direct sale of the books published by Macmillion a week ago.

In usual practice, Amazon. com sets the prices of the e-books it displays for sale and this caused disputes with the Lagardere SCA's Hachette Book Group, which in order induced Amazon. com to halt the sale of Macmillion books.

After a week's period, Amazon. com has announced that it would accept the publisher's request to charge a price between $12.99 and $14.99 instead of $9.99 which has been set by Amazon. com itself.

Regarding the issue, the Chief Executive Officer of Hachette, Mr. David Young said, "The new plan allows Hachette to make pricing decisions that are rational and reflect the value of our authors' works."

After this decision of Amazon. com, its share prices rose by $1.45 to $117.39 on the NASDAQ Stock Market at 4 pm while the Lagardere's share prices fell by 74 cents or 2.7 percent to stand at 27.15 euros in Paris.
