Anand Mahindra, Neotia and Mitra to resign as NACIL independent directors

Anand Mahindra, Neotia and Mitra to resign as NACIL independent directorsAccording to recent reports, Mahindra & Mahindra vice-chairman, Anand Mahindra has decided to resign from the board of Nacil. The reason for the resignation is cited as "conflicting interests".

Anand Mahindra reportedly sent a letter to Indian civil aviation minister stating his desire to step down from the board. Mahindra has recently sought a business opportunity at Aero-India 2011 in Bangalore.

His company will soon be spending $100 million in the aerospace business. Of this $100 million, $35 million have already been used for acquisition of an Australia based utility aircraft manufacturing company. In his letter to Vayalar Ravi, Mahindra stated, "The recently concluded Aero-India 2011 at Bangalore has thrown up business opportunities for my company Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, which was a potential conflict of interest and thereby throw up questions of good board practice."

After Mahindra, National Aviation Company of India Limited (NACIL) may lose two more independent directors. According to recent media reports, Ambuja Realty chairman Harsh Neotia and Ficci general secretary Amit Mitra also have lined up to leave their seat of independent director at NACIL.

NACIL appointed these business tycoons to revive their loss making operations. NACIL operates state owned airline company Air India.
