After the respective union from the Auto and Taxi owners have demanded a hike in the fares that they charge for many months now, it is perhaps a party time for both of them. In fact, in the wake of rise in price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), the Delhi government is likely to increase the rates after its cabinet meeting.

It may be noted here that the Delhi Government recently announced a hike of Rs. 6 in its CNG prices taking its prices to Rs. 27.60 per kg. for the taxi and auto owners.

A government source said that the transport ministry has prepared a proposal for a rise in the fare prices of Auto and Taxis in Delhi which will be discussed in the meeting.

It may be noted here that under the current situation the auto drivers charge Rs. 10 for the first kilometre and thereafter Rs. 4.50 for each subsequent kilometre from the consumer and the taxi drivers charge Rs. 15 for the first kilometre and Rs. 8.50 for subsequent kilometres. In fact, the tariff in Delhi is very low as compared to that in Chennai and Mumbai.
