Bajaj Auto to launch most expensive, most technologically advanced 100cc bike

Bajaj Auto to launch most expensive, most technologically advanced 100cc bikeBajaj Auto Ltd. will launch the most expensive and technologically most advanced motorcycle in the 100cc segment in January 2013, a senior executive from the leading two-wheeler manufacturer has announced.

Speaking to reporters, Bajaj Auto President (Motorcycle Business) K Srinivas said, "It will be the most expensive 100cc bike ever launched and will be the most advanced technologically."

He declined to reveal the price tag for the upcoming motorcycle, saying the top technology and not the price of the bike would matter. He added that purchasers in the 100cc segment were value conscious and not essentially price conscious.

Bajaj Auto's current 100cc bikes are selling under the Platina and Discover brands, which starts at Rs 38,990 and Rs 44,497 respectively. In September, the company claimed that its Discover model had snatched the title of the world's largest selling bike from Hero MotoCorp's Splendor by selling 1.22 lakh units against Splendor's 1.21 lakh units.

When asked if the Discover model would cannibalize the share of the company's own Pulsar because Discover had some overlapping cubic capacity, Srinivas said it wasn't capacity alone that determined customer choice.

The company also claimed that it had enjoyed a rise in its market share despite a marginal decrease in growth of the industry. The company said the market share of Bajaj Auto had jumped from 25 per cent to 27 per cent in the first six months of current fiscal year.

In September, Bajaj Auto's market share jumped further to 28 per cent. During the first eight days of Dussehra festival, the company's retail sales jumped 6 per cent from the corresponding period of previous year.
