BCCI withdraws showcause notice as Vengsarkar agree not to write columns

New Delhi, Nov.22 : Chairman of the national cricket selection committee, Dilip Vengsarkar, today  gave a "categorical assurance" to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that he would not be writing anymore columns for newspapers or websites while essaying his present responsibilities.

The matter was resolved during the first day's play of the first Test between India and Pakistan being played at the Ferozeshah Kotla grounds here.

"Vengsarkar had a long meeting with president Sharad Pawar and other top BCCI officials and he has now given a categorical assurance that he would no longer write columns," said Rajiv Shukla, a BCCI vice-president.

In the light of this development, the BCCI has withdrawn its show-cause notice on Vengsarkar for defying an official gag.

Vengsarkar was writing a weekly column and giving an interview to the Bombay Times, a Mumbai-based newspaper.

The BCCI had threatened to issue a show cause notice to Vengsarkar earlier, as his columns were appearing  in the Marathi paper, Sakal, and Hindi daily, Amar Ujala. There was speculation that Vengsarkar might even quit his post over the issue. (ANI)
