Bharti to launch DTH Services christened ‘Airtel Digital TV’ from Oct 9Country's largest cellular operator Bharti Airtel has informed that it would launch direct-to-home (DTH) satellite television service christened 'Airtel digital TV' initially in 62 cities from October 9, 2008.

The company claims that Airtel digital TV uses the latest MPEG4 standard with DVB S2 technology, which translates into exceptional picture clarity and consistent high quality audio for the customer. 

In addition Airtel digital TV also uses 20% larger dish antenna that offers better performance during rain.

According to the sources, for the Northern market, the package starts from Rs 2,499 and for the South, the package would start from Rs 1,499. While, the monthly tariffs of DTH would vary in the range of Rs 125 to Rs 424 depending on the language and genre of channels.

At present there are five existing player in the Indian DTH markets, including Dish TV, Tata Sky, Reliance Big TV, Sun Direct DTH, DD Direct Plus.

The service will be available to consumers through 21,000 retail points along with customer care service support, which is available in 8 different languages.
