BJP condemns CPI-M leader''s obscene rape-linked remark on Mamata New Delhi, Dec 28 : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday condemned Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Anisur Rehman's indecent comments against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Addressing a meeting of the party''s peasants wing -- Krishak Sabha -- in North Dinajpur District''s Itahar area, Rahman ridiculed the Banerjee-led government''s decision to compensate victims of crimes against women like rape and trafficking.

"We have told the chief minister in the assembly that the government will pay money to compensate rape victims. What is your fee? If you are raped, what will be your fee?" asked Anisur.

"I think this is a sign of unstable mental level. Women are not less capable than men It is important to understand this. The way CPM leader spoke about Mamata Banerjee is condemnable. We condemn it," said BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar.

Rehman later apologized for his statement.

"While commenting on the compensation to rape victims, I mistakenly uttered some words which I should not have said and which are against norms of courtesy. However, I did not have any malicious intent or desire to insult a person," Rehman said in his apology. (ANI)
