Burberry registers 23% increase in full year profit, plans expansionBurberry Group Plc, a fashion retailer in UK, has registered record profits in the full year ended March 31, 2010. The luxury group said that its profit before tax grew by around 23% for the full year, beating the expectations of the company.

Burberry said that the full year results were mainly attributable to the strong sales of leather goods and coats. Burberry also revealed that it is planning to step up expansion in the coming year with a focus on emerging markets, e-commerce and menswear.

Burberry said in its results that its profit before tax was reported of £215 million for the year ended March 31, increasing by 23% while it was reported of £175 million in the previous corresponding period. The results beat the expectations of the market analysts as they were estimating a profit before tax of £205 million for the period.

Total sales for the year were reported of £1.28 billion, increasing by 7% while the group had posted total sales of £1.19 billion in the previous corresponding period. Retail sales in the period were reported of £748.8 million, increasing by 19% while it was reported of £629 million in previous fiscal.

Burberry said that it is planning to open 20 to 30 new stores this year, mostly in the Americas and Asia Pacific. The group also said that the board has decided to invest in digital commerce, key product categories and emerging markets this year.
