Canadian job market lost a net 54,500 jobs in March

Canadian job market lost a net 54,500 jobs in MarchAccording to the latest figures released, the Canadian jobs market lost a total of 54,500 jobs during the month of March, 2013.

The fall of 54,500 jobs in the month is the biggest fall in the country's employment market in four years and indicates that the economy's recovery is still very fragile. The fall eroded the gains made in the previous month and the country's total unemployment rate increased to 7.2 per cent during the month.

Data showed that the country's manufacturing industry recorded a loss of 24,200 jobs during the month while accommodation and food services lost 24,900 jobs during March. The public administration sector lost 24,300 jobs while corrections lost almost 10,000 jobs in the single month in the country.

On the other hand, self-employment sector grew during the month adding 38,700 jobs but experts say that they are mostly low paying jobs. It is estimated that a total of 93,100 jobs were lost in the month with 85,400 in the private sector. Analysts have said that the job losses might have been even more severe if the self-employment sector had not recorded a gain during the month.
