Chandigarh to be developed as a solar city, says Shivraj PatilPunjab Governor and Union Territory Administrator Shivraj Patil has said that the city of Chandigarh will be developed as a solar city in the coming future.

While speaking at the 66th Independence Day celebrations in the heart of the city at the Parade Ground in Sector 17, he said that there was a need to capture the solar energy in the city and the initiatives from public as well as private sector will be encouraged.

Chandigarh, which is the capital of Punjab and Haryana and a union territory in itself, will se an improved transportation system with the construction of a Metro Rail and introduction of a bigger fleet of busses in the planned city. The city has seen a huge rise in vehicles plying on its roads and this had made it difficult to manage the traffic conditions.

"Chandigarh has big roads construction method of roads is also modern. The vehicles which move on it are increasing at an alarming rate, because of this it has become difficult to manage traffic what can be done to improve it. The problem is being considered. It is being discussed in Advisory council also. Steps are being taken to implement the view suggested by them," he said.

Steps are already been taken for pushing forward the metro rail project for the city and the administration is looking to build a new ring road as well as underpasses to ease traffic conditions.
