Chennai at a standstill and MTC threaten strike
Many of the southern and western regions of Chennai are facing trouble after a section of drivers and conductors of MTC went on strike. The damage was more as most of the populace of the region is dependent on the public transport for commutation.
Passengers were left stranded and had to wait for more than two hours in front of empty bus stations. They were hoping that the strike will soon be called off and the things will go back to normal.
The trouble began when one A. Senthil Suresh, son of an Ambattur Municipal Councillor A. Anbu had a heated argument with MTC crew after he rashly tried to overtake the bus. The quarrel then snowballed and led to the strike by MTC staff.
It was also reported that two buses and their respective depots had been attacked and damaged during the incident.
The staff is angry and said that there in no safety for them at the work. The strike, they say, is the result of the frustration that has happened over long time.
Close to 55 lakh people use MTC service every day.
