Christopher Lee Cornell wanted to shoot President Obama

In an interview with an Ohio television station, a man accused of plotting an attack at the United States Capitol said that he wanted to shoot the President of the United States Barack Obama. According to the man, Christopher Lee Cornell, if he had not been arrested, he would have gone to Washington to shoot the President.

Cornell was called into WXIX-TV from a Kentucky jail. The man has confessed that he is a supporter of the Islamic State terror group. The man also said that he had planned to kill some government officials as part of revenge for United States strikes on ISIS.

The interview was aired on Friday night, a few hours after Cornell's attorney failed to argue in court that the legal procedure against his client could violate the defendant's right to a fair trial. During the interview, the interviewer asked Cornell that what he would have done if he had not been arrested in January this year. In reply, Cornell said that he would have taken one of his guns to shoot Obama.

During the interview, Cornell said, "I would have put it to Obama's head, I would have pulled the trigger, then I would unleash more bullets on the Senate and House of Representative members, and I would have attacked the Israeli embassy and various other buildings".

Cornell also identified himself as a Muslim in the interview. He further said that he wanted to continue the attacks as government of the United States is continuously showing aggression against ISIS.

In January, Cornell was arrested outside a gun shop near his home. According to FBI, the man had bought two M-15 assault weapons and 600 rounds of ammunition. In court, FBI stated that Cornell had planned to 'wage jihad' by attacking the Capitol.
