Clinton cancels visit to Greece for NATO, OSCE summitAthens - US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, recovering from elbow surgery, has cancelled her trip to Greece at week's end for a summit with European foreign ministers, Greece's foreign ministry said Monday.

Clinton had been set to attend a meeting of the NATO-Russia council and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) on the Greek island of Corfu.

Greece's foreign ministry in a statement said it was alerted by the US to Clinton's cancellation and that the US State Department's Undersecretary William Burns will take her place. The NATO-Russia summit will be the first since Russia's war with Georgia last summer.

Clinton fell and fractured her right elbow on Wednesday and had successful surgery to repair it two days later. She has cancelled public appearances since the accident.

She is also set to travel to Italy next week for a summit of the Group of Eight (G8) nations. There was no word on whether this trip would be cancelled as well.(dpa)
