Colourful start for Kabaddi World Cup in PunjabKabaddi is the most popular rural game in India and first edition of World Cup Kabaddi Punjab-2010 (WCKP) championship started on Saturday evening. Around 9 countries will be participating in this championship.

It was a matchless and unique inauguration ceremony, witnessed by Bollywood actors Dharmendra and his son Sunny Deol with many other celebrities from different fields. It also showcased cultural legacy of India through Indian folk dances of 14 different states along with spectacular performance by Punjabi singers and comedians.

Blessing the rural games, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said that government will pay more attention to games like kabaddi in new sports policy of the state.

Few participating countries include Pakistan, US, Great Britain, Canada, Iran and Australia.

This grand event is scheduled for 11 days and winner will be rewarded with cash price of Rs 1 crore followed by first runner up to receive Rs 51 lakh. The second and third runner up will gain Rs21 lakh and 10 lakh respectively. In addition to this Rs.500000 will be given to other participating teams.
