Comedian Jaspal Bhatti dies in road crashFamous comedian and satirist Jaspal Bhatti died in a road crash on early Thursday. He was 57.

Mr. Bhatti was going from Bhatinda to Jhalandar to promote his upcoming Punjabi film `Power Cut'. At around 1 am on Thursday, his car crashed into a tree along the highway near Nakodar town, 40 kilometers from Jalandhar.

Mr. Bhatti's son Jasraj, who was driving the car, and the film's heroine Suril Gautam received sever injuries, while Mr. Bhatti died on the spot.

Mr. Bhatti's body will be brought to Chandigarh for cremation, after completion of legal formalities, including post-mortem.

Mr. Bhatti used satire and humor to highlight serious social issues like corruption, female foeticide, and inflation. He is best known for his comedy television series `Flop Show' and `Ulta Pulta', which gained a great popularity in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The great comedian starred in some Hindi movies also. He played the role of a guard Jolly Good Singh in Fanna, in which lead roles were played by Aamir Khan and Kajol. He also played roles in some Punjabi movies, such as `Jijaji'.

He was graduated in electrical engineering from Chandigarh-based Punjab Engineering College (PEC). Before venturing into television, he had also served as a cartoonist with a reputed media house.

Mr. Bhatti left behind his wife Savita, a daughter and a son.
