PepsiCo is coming up with a revamped Diet Pepsi that will not have aspartame and would be having another artificial sweetener Splenda. As per the company, the new Diet Pepsi will be available across the nation this week.

With the rollout of the new drink, a theory will be tested that the sweetener is to be blamed for not having soda drinks or other factors are involved in it. A decline has been witnessed in the sales of traditional diet sodas.

Other companies including Diet Coke, Diet Dr Pepper and Fanta Zero have not eliminated aspartame. Industry executives were of the view that the decline could be due to the concerns people have about aspartame.

PepsiCo on Wednesday promoted a number of senior executives. Hugh Johnston is promoted as vice chairman of the company. Johnston was also chief financial officer for PepsiCo.

The announcement follows PepsiCo's move to focus on digital technology and ecommerce amid the rise of the digitally connected consumer.

The company announced the name of Brian Newman, senior vice president of global e-commerce, as its new executive vice president of global operations. Earlier this year, Mehmood Khan, chief scientific officer, was promoted to vice chairman.

According to Time, PepsiCo is planning to release natural soda flavors in a fountain made to resemble a craft beer dispenser. Flavors like orange hibiscus, black cherry with tarragon, pineapple cream, and agave vanilla cream will be included in the new line. The flavors will include naturally-sweetened sugar cane in place of high-fructose corn syrup.

At a press conference with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, PepsiCo CEO, Indra Nooyi said that her company would bring the power of 22 of its brands to the NBA.

Under NBA logo, PepsiCo has planned new retail and advertising campaigns. In addition to beverages, there will be snacks like Doritos and Ruffles.

The annual report shows that diet sodas continue to lose popularity. Overall soda use by American people decreased for the tenth straight year, but at a more modest speed than the preceding year. As per an annual report by the industry tracker Beverage Digest, full-calorie Coke of Coca-Cola remained the most popular soda across the country in 2014.

Overall soda use in the United States decreased 0.9% last year and it marked the tenth straight year of decline. In the US, health-conscious consumers are moving away from carbonated drinks to energy drinks and other alternatives.

PepsiCo's India revenue grows in double digits

"Our developing and emerging markets business has proven to be resilient with high single-digit organic revenue growth year-to-date, including double-digit growth in Egypt and India," PepsiCo Inc Chairman and CEO Indra Nooyi said in an earnings call.

"Even though the political environments are relatively stable, GDP and consumer spending growth remains mixed. Despite these challenges, our businesses performed well in the third quarter and year-to-date," she added.

Work begins on PepsiCo's largest beverage plant in India

PepsiCoHyderabad, Dec 21 : Soft drink major PepsiCo's largest beverage plant in India is coming up in Andhra Pradesh at a cost of Rs. 1,230 crore, its single largest investment in India.

At a ceremony held here Saturday, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy laid the foundation stone for the facility being built at Sri City, the special economic zone in Chittoor district.

The plant is being set up on 80 acres of land. It will be completed in three phases by 2017 and will generate direct and indirect employment for 8,000 people.

It will produce a range of beverages, including fruit juice based drinks, carbonated soft drinks and sports drinks.

PepsiCo to invest $5.5 billion in India by 2020: Nooyi

“India is a country with huge potential and it remains an attractive, high-priority market for PepsiCo,” PepsiCo Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Indra Nooyi told reporters here.

She said the investment will be made in expanding manufacturing capacity, agriculture, infrastructure and innovation.
