Cap on new cellular licenses might be fixed by DoT

TRAI Due to scarcity in spectrum, no more cellular licenses might be given by the Department of Telecom (DoT). It should be noted that DoT has sought the opinion of its regulator - the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) - on whether more operators should be allowed to enter the market; as a first step towards imposing a cap on licenses.

Telecom subscribers’ base crosses 400-million mark

The country's telecom subscriber base, for the quarter ending March, stood at 429.7 million, as per the data released by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). This brings good news for Indian economy, which is doing well despite unfavorable market conditions of the global market due to the financial crisis.

TRAI reveals draft regulations for implementing Mobile Number Portability

The telecommunications regulatory authority of India (TRAI) on Tuesday revealed draft regulations for implementing Mobile Number Portability (MNP) in India. The facility of MNP will greatly benefit the mobile subscribers looking to change their telecom service providers. The MNP facility will allow mobile subscribers to change their telecom operators without changing their mobile numbers.

With the MNP facility, the mobile subscribers tired of their telecom service providers will be able to switch over to the telecom operators of their choice, along with retaining their old mobile numbers which they were using for long.
