Cong election committee meets to finalise candidates for assembly polls

Congress releases list for Rajasthan pollsNew Delhi, Sept 20 : The Central Election Committee of the Congress party met here today to finalise candidates for Maharashtra, Haryana and Arunachal Pradesh assembly polls.

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi attended the meeting.

The assembly elections in three states will be held in a single phase on October 13. Counting of votes will take place on October 22.

Maharashtra has a 288-member assembly with 29 seats being reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and another 25 for Scheduled Tribes (STs).

While Haryana has a 90-member House (SC-17), Arunachal Pradesh has 60 seats with 59 of them being reserved for STs

The term of the Arunachal Pradesh assembly ends on October 24, while in Maharashtra, the tenure was to last till November 3.

Though Haryana had nearly six months time, it decided to go for early polls by dissolving the assembly on August 21.

There are 2,061 polling stations in Arunachal Pradesh, 12,894 in Haryana and 82,028 in Maharashtra. (ANI)
