Bangalore, Feb 1 : Congress Party supporters took to the streets here on Friday pressing their demand for the dissolution of the Karnataka assembly after the resignation of at least 13 legislators of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Taunting the ruling BJP Government, the Congress supporters depicted a drama portraying Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar as ill and admitted in an intensive care unit (ICU).

Congress counsellor Sampath Kumar lamented the incumbent government for deceiving the people, and said that it has lost the moral right to continue in office.

"We say this government should dissolve immediately and they should go for a fresh mandate. I don''t think so that they are in a position to give the budget and they are still fooling the people and trying to do undemocratic way and cheat the voters. I think the people should see the whole episode and see to that they should teach these people a good lesson in the next electoral elections," he said.

Former Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa yesterday welcomed the 13 MLAs who quit the ruling BJP into Karnataka Janata Party the outfit floated by him.

Yeddyurappa hailed their decision by asserting that his party would emerge victorious in the ensuing polls to the state legislature.

Exuding confidence, Yeddyurappa said that his party would get absolute majority in the upcoming elections due in April-May.

"Throughout the state I might have toured so far about 100 assembly constituencies after conference, after Haveri conference. The response is very good and we are going to tour the entire state and we have decided to contest all the 224 assembly constituencies and we are not going to have seat adjustment with any other political party," said Yeddyurappa.

"We have 100 percent confidence that we are going to get absolute majority in the coming assembly elections," he added.

Despite being reduced to wafer thin majority following a barrage of resignations, the BJP Government in Karnataka has assured of completing its full term.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister K. S. Eshwarappa on Wednesday reassured that his party would complete a full term.

"We are confident that no more legislators will resign and the BJP government under the leadership of Jagdish Shettar will complete full term," said Eshwarappa.

After the exodus, the BJP is left with 106 members in the Karnataka Assembly. If that number falls below 105, the government will be in a minority.

The Congress has 71 MLAs and the JD (S) has 26 MLAs in the assembly. (ANI)
