“Dehli ko Dilli bna do” says Gill

M S Gill On Thursday, Mr. M S Gill, Minister of Union Sports, extemporary remarked that Dilli should be name of Delhi. However, majority of the city and other leaders have raised voice against 'hamari dilli'.

Mr. Gill went to Mrs. Sheila Dikshit, Chief Minister, to ask her to bring the matter in front of the Central government. However, she was non-committal when she brought this matter in front of media. She placed an innocent remark by saying that "Mr. Gill just said that 'Delhi ko Dilli bna do'" and replied with smile to his request.

The founder of Shriram Bhartiya kala Kendra, Mrs. Shobha Deepak Singh, asks the reason to change the name "Delhi". She thinks that only rural population commonly uses Dilli as others prefer to call it Delhi.

Mr. Siddharth Basu, a Quiz master agreed and said that it is uneconomical, after all, Dilli or Delhi, the city is same. Delhiites find that there are a lot of other bigger issues to care about such as, pollution, water supply, power and congestion.

As Mr. AGK menon, urban planner did not agree with this matter of changing name as he thinks that we should not change the name of Delhi which is known and traditionalistic.

Mr. KT Ravindran feels that modifying the name of the city would signify running away from the Delhi's original character. He feels that we must maintain its historical unity. As such, these types of actions make confusions only.

Actor Lushin Dubey said that if former cities like Bengaluru and Mumbai can change their names then why can't Delhi.
