Developed world to blame if talks fail, says Jairam

Developed world to blame if talks fail, says JairamCopenhagen, Dec 17 - The developed world will have to bear the blame if the climate change talks in Copenhagen fail, Minister of State for Environment and Forest Jairam Ramesh said Thursday.

"India, China, South Africa and Brazil are working very closely together. If the talks fail, it will be because of the process managed by Denmark would have failed. If the talks fail, it will be because the developed countries have not fulfilled their commitments under the Kyoto protocol," Ramesh told news channel TimesNow.

"The blame is fairly and squarely on developed countries," he added.

"We (India and other three countries) have worked very hard to bring the negotiations back on track. The blame (for failure) should not be laid on our doorsteps."

The minister added that one "of the positive outcomes of Cophenhagen is the cementing of ties between India and China". (IANS)
