Disabled receive gifts in Delhi, gets throats slit by Maoists elsewhereNew Delhi/ Narayanpatna (Orissa), Sep 29 : On the day when Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi was distributing three-wheeler scooters to the specially-abled persons in New Delhi, in far way Orissa, Maoists dismembered the throat of a polio-stricken Dalit villager in the tribal dominated Narayanpatna area of Koratput District.

Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Vadra on Wednesday distributed scooters to specially-abled persons on behalf of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, a non-profit organisation, run by Congress President Sonia Gandhi, while the Dalit villager was engaged in earning his daily bread running his vehicle distributing food to the villagers.

Rahul and Priyanka, Trustee and Executive Trustee of the Foundation, interacted with the specially-abled persons and posed for photographs with them, while the Dalit disabled were running away from chasing Maoists.

The day was joyous one for the disabled in Delhi, but it was exactly the opposite for the Orissa Dalit, Mishra Turuk, whose throat was slit by the ultras who accused him of being a police informer. The ultras also torched two vehicles belonging to the deceased''s brother.

Rabi Khosla, the brother of deceased Mishra Turuk, said: "On September 27 at 6 a. m., my brother went with two of my commander jeeps, along with two drivers. We waited till night, but they were not back. Today morning (September 28), we got the information that my commander jeeps were burnt by Maoists and they also killed my brother."

The police recovered a letter near the body of Turuk, written by the Maoists, threatening villagers not to help police, otherwise they would continue with their rampage.

The Maoists have been resisting the attempts of the state administration to extend administration to interior areas and have been attacking people who cooperated with the administration, particularly the local police.

Maoists have not yet responded to the offer made to them by the Centre to suspend violence and start talks.

So far this year, they have killed 297 civilians and 109 security personnel (ANI)
