Dish TV reports its first net profit since listingDirect-to-home (DTH) service provider Dish TV on Thursday reported its first net profit since listing. Dish TV pocketed a net profit of Rs 55 crore in the July-September quarter, as compared with a net loss of Rs 48.56 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.

While operating profit jumped 18.3 per cent in the three months through September 30 year-on-year to Rs 155.7 crore, operating profit margin climbed to 29.2 pre cent during the same period.

The DTH giant enjoyed the addition of 4.77 lakh new subscribers to its customer base, which reached to a total of 10 million net subscribers

And 13.9 million gross subscribers.

Subscription revenue grew 14.6 per cent to Rs 472.7 crore in the three months to September 30 year-on-year.

Dish TV Managing Director Jawahar Goel said, "The price hike initiated in the last quarter flowed through partially to deliver encouraging average revenue per user (ARPU) increase. ARPU for the second quarter was recorded at Rs 159 compared to Rs 156 in the preceding quarter."

It should be noted here that the second-quarter results of the company include an exceptional gain of Rs 76.4 crore. RC Venkateish, chief executive of Dish TV, said the exceptional gain in the second quarter was a one-time item and an eighteen month adjustment to deal with the treatment of FOREX fluctuation.
