Doctors were careless in handling Anupama, Consumer Commission

Doctors were careless in handling Anupama, Consumer CommissionThe Consumer Commission has said that the doctors were carless in treatment for the 17 years old girl, Anupama, who died in Uttar Pradesh.

The girl was crushed under a Chandigarh Transport Undertaking bus and was taken to PGIMER hospital. However, the family members claimed that the doctors at PGIMER did not care for her well. They filed a complaint against PGI doctors for medical negligence at the consumer redressal commission.

The commission said that the family has claimed that the doctors did not provide adequate medical treatment to the girl and this led to her death. The panel observed that if the doctors had treated the girl's wounds on the same day, they would not have developed gangrene leading to septicemia and her death. Anupama had fallen off the bus and leg was crushed by the bus. The panel as well as the family believes that it was the fault of the Transport Company for not providing adequate service.

The panel has directed PGIMER to pay a sum of 7 lakhs as compensation and Rs 25,000 as legal costs. It also asked the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking bus has to pay Rs 3 lakhs for the deficiency in service.
