EasyJet to launch services to five new routes from Edinburgh

EasyJet to launch services to five new routes from EdinburghAviation firm, EasyJet has said that it is planning to launch services to five more destinations form Edinburgh from next January.

The airline will add two extra aircraft at the capital and will add 100 jobs at the airport. After the expansion, the airline will emerge as the biggest airline in Scotland. The move brings much relief to the Edinburgh, which has seen several cancellations of services by Ryanair.

The airline said that the total number of aircraft based at the airport will rise to seven and the total number of routes covered will rise to 29 destinations after the proposed expansion. Hugh Aitken, head of easyJet in Scotland pointed out that the expansion is mainly due to the attractiveness of Edinburgh as a popular tourist destinations.

However, the expansion will also benefit the residents of the city to travel to other destinations in European region. The airline company is aiming to launch services to European capitals or major cities, however it will announce the destinations after holding discussions with tourism bodies VisitScotland and Marketing Edinburgh in October.

EasyJet also operates from Aberdeen, Inverness and Glasgow and it serves 14 destinations from those cities.
