Egyptian ambassador confident of fair trial

Ramzy Ezzeldin RamzyDresden  - Egypt's ambassador to Germany, Ramzy Ezzeldin Ramzy, expressed confidence in the German justice system in delivering a fair trial of the man who stabbed an Egyptian woman to death last summer.

In Dresden himself to observe the proceedings as the trial of Alex W was getting underway for the stabbing murder of Marwa al-Shirbini in July, Ramzy said he expected a fair trial.

"I have great trust in German justice," the diplomat said just before the trial got underway amid heavy security precautions.

The stabbing death of Shirbini in the same Dresden courtroom last July stirred anger in Egypt and other Muslim countries. The accused man, an ethnic German who had immigrated to Germany from Russia in 2003, faces life imprisonment if found guilty.(dpa)
