The state of Orissa continues to face violation of environmental laws by mining companies.

This time, two companies have been accused of not following the steps to follow the regulations and thus hampering the surroundings.

The first is the billion dollar mining giant, Vedanata. The government has said that it has simply disobeyed the environment regulations to be able to get its Rs. 50,000-crore project get cleared. It is said that it has simply misused and jumped all the tribal rights.

The other is the Orissa Mining Corporation (OMC). The Environment Ministry has said that the company has violated two clauses of the Forest Conservation Act.

The ministry has also accused it of diversion of the forest land for its business purposes. The company did so in the Niyamgiri ecosystem of the Eastern State.

This is not allowed in India.

OMC has used the forest land for the extraction of bauxite, which is going to be used in the plants of its JV partner, Sterlite Industries.

Both Vedanta and Sterlite are fully owned by UK-based Vedanta Resources.

Both the companies are already in the headlines because of their alleged misuse of forest property.
