Unable to cope with his impoverishment, a father cuts the throats of his three minor daughters, aged between 6-14 years, in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi district early Tuesday.

According to police officials, the 40-year-old Ahmad murdered his three daughters in his house at Kamauli village, about 300 km from here.

Ahmad has confessed to his offense.

Suspecting the participation of his wife Sitara in the slaughters, police have also detained her.

Police inspector Ramayan Singh stated, "Preliminary investigations indicate that poor financial conditions drove Ahmad to kill his daughters. He worked at a small stationery shop and was not able to look after his family properly."

"We have learnt that Ahmad used to tell his neighbours that he would kill his daughters if his financial condition did not improve," Mr. Singh said. (With Inputs from Agencies)
