Fight for the Indian consumer

CarWhile the top three slots in the Indian passenger car market are being captured by Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Tata Motors respectively for years but the fight for the next three slots has became all the more intense.

With companies like GM, Ford and Honda entering the next lap, the ranking among these players is shifting on a month by month basis.

While GM ended up being at the fourth position in March and April with sales of 9,464 units and 8,904 units, respectively, it lost its position to ford in the last month with sales of close to 6712 units. It may be noted here before the launch of Figo in India, Ford sold only 2,875 units, miles behind both GM (9,449) and Honda (6,146) but post the launch, the company has shown impressive growth.

While the company sold 7,820 units in May, in the month of March and April, Ford sold 9,063 units and 7,226 units, respectively.

But with an aging portfolio and high competition, Honda SIEL is lagging behind and is today a distant sixth in the Indian market.
