Mumbai, May 12 : A swift water rescue training programme was imparted to fire brigade personnel on Monday in Mumbai by special instructors from Canada.

The training course was conducted by International Rescue Instructor's Authority, which imparted training to two batches of Mumbai fire brigade.

"What we have tried to do is, we have tried to explain how we deliver flow lines to people whether they are sinking or drowning and how we control the buoyancy using different devices and also how we can swim out and grab them," said Jeremy Hunter, instructor from Canada.

The training was imparted as a part of the disaster management programme to tackle flood situations in Mumbai like the one that took place in 2005.

"The main training which was conducted in four days in Kolad was to raise our efficiency in a flood rescue situation. If the flood rescue is of a higher magnitude, well the current will be very fast and the chances of injury to the rescue worker. How to avoid injury to the rescue worker, (that was) the level of training all that was taken by my team which comprised 65 men along with the officers," said P. D. Kargupikar, Chief, fire brigade.

The trainees said that the training programme would definitely help them tackle flood situations with greater efficiency. (ANI)
