Ford Figo and Yamaha steal the Economic Times-ZigWheels Car and Bike awardsEconomic Times-ZigWheels Car and Bike awards were organized in Mumbai on January 21. Car of the year award was given to Ford Figo whereas the best motor bike of the year award goes to Yamaha SZ-X. Ford Figo has earned three awards including the ZigWheels .com Viewers Choice car. Hero Honda had won the bike manufacturer of the year for the consecutive second year.

Ford India president and managing director Micheal Boneham in his acceptance speech said that Figo is dedicating this award to all its customers and employees who have made Figo a grand success. In March 2010, Figo was launched in India, since then it has sold 60,000 vehicles achieving the top position against all the vehicles produced from the Ford India garage.

The evening was witnessed by many celebrities of the auto industry like auto designer Dilip Chhabria, Vivek Nayer of Mahindra and Zig-Wheels editor-in-chief Adil Jal Darukhanawala.

Some other awards include the best car manufacturer award for the year which was bagged by Toyota Kirloskar, maker of vehicles such as Fortuner and Innova. Talking about innovation and technological achievements Honda Motor Cycles and Scooters India bagged three awards.

There was an exclusive award, the Prestige luxury sedan of the year which was bagged by international car maker BMW. Skoda Yeti was considered the best SUV of the year. Skoda and Volkswagen had jointly won five awards including the compact car of the year. Volkswagen India director Neeraj Garg was very happy with their recognition in India and said that Volkswagen has been consistently catering to the Indian customers and is delighted on the acceptance.

Michael Boneham, president and MD, Ford India said that 2010 has been terrific for Ford in India. As compared to the cars sold in 2009 the company has almost tripled its sales in 2010.

Jaguar XF won the CBU Prestige Sedan of the Year, while the Luxury Prestige Sedan of the Year went to BMW 5 Series.

The CBU Sports car of the Year went to Mercedes Benz-SLS, the CBU SUV of the Year was assigned to the Porsche Cayenne. The CBU Super Bike of the Year was won by Suzuki GSX- R1000.

In the bike segment, the Best Value for Money Vehicle was assigned to Bajaj Discover 150 DTSi, while Honda CB Unicorn Dazzier won the MotorCycle of the Year up to 180cc. Skoda Yeti was declared as the Best Design of the Year award at the same time Volkswagen Polo 1.6 was awarded with the Most Fun to Drive Vehicle trophy.
