Ford to launch more global products in India
After being a laggard in the Indian automotive industry for over a decade, Ford India has made a solid attempt to gain ground in the automotive market with the launch of the aggressively priced Figo. However, if the words of Ford's officials are to be believed it's just the start of Ford's ambitious plans for the Indian market.
The company plans to a new car in every 12-18 months which will be primarily in the hatchback or the entry-level sedan segment. Under the one Ford strategy, the company will be producing global products i. e. products based on a platform which can be sold anywhere in the world. Clearly, with the Indian market becoming more important by the day, automakers are not leaving any stone unturned to garner maximum market share.
Ford Asia's Pacific and Africa's President, Joe Hinrichs said that One Ford strategy was another lesson that the company learned in the downturn and the strategy is of utmost important to Ford Motor Company as it has the potential to take the automaker on new highs.
Recently, Ford Motor Company displaced GM in the month of February in unit sales. Ford has overtaken General Motors after 12 years in the US. It is believed that the launch of Fiesta hatchback in also on the cards of the company for the Indian market.
