French rogue securities trader finds new job

Paris  - Jerome Kerviel, the French former securities trader allegedly responsible for the largest-ever bank fraud, has found a new job, the website of the weekly Le Point reported Friday.

The 31-year-old Kerviel, whose unauthorized transactions cost the French bank Societe Generale some 4.9 billion euros (7.7 billion dollars), has been working since the beginning of April as an information technology consultant for a firm in Levallois-Perret, near Paris.

According to the report, the head of the company, Jean-Raymond Lemaire, gave Kerviel refuge in his home when the Societe Generale affair broke, in January, and promised to hire him as soon as he was released from prison.

Kerviel is currently being investigated on several charges, including forgery and breach of trust. If brought to trial and convicted he could face a sentence of up to seven years in prison and a maximum fine of 750,000 euros (1.2 million dollars).

While under investigation he is not allowed to set foot in a trading room or a stock exchange or be involved in any activity related to these sites. (dpa)
