GCMMF faces leadership doubts

GCMMF-LogoThere are some serious concerns as to who will be the next leader of the Rs. 8,000 crore Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF).

The trouble began when the current managing director, BM Vyas, resigned from his post after differences over the appointment of special auditor for the finances of the co-operative took place. His resignation was supposed to happen in November.

Besides this, the state government also rejected the panel of auditors that was recommended by Vyas. Sources close to him say that he viewed as a means to bring politics into the biggest co-operative in India.

This is the first time that the government has refused permission to a panel that was advised by GCMMF. In the past, the set of private auditors that was recommended by the co-operative was given a go-ahead without any questions.

Sources also said that Vyas was not against the set of auditors that the government had appointed; he only wanted even the private auditors to do the checking as well.

Vyas, they said, is afraid that the government will manipulate the figures and that the auditors are the easiest means of doing so. Vyas said that GCMMF can run without government intervention.
