Indian women''s hockey teams prepare for foreign toursBangalore, Jan 8 : The Indian junior and senior women''s hockey teams are training seriously in Bangalore for forthcoming international tours.

The senior team will take part in a four-nation tournament in Santiago, Chile from January 17.

The 22-member squad is expected to fly into Santiago on January 15, where they will play against Italy, Argentina and host Chile.

Fate of Pak hockey team’s visit to India to be decided on January 2

Hockey Tournament Karachi, Dec. 31 : The decision on the proposed Pakistan hockey team's visit to India will be taken up for discussion in a high-level meeting in Islamabad on January 2.

"Representatives of the sports ministry and Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) will meet with foreign ministry officials in Islamabad on January 2 before a decision is taken over the issue," Sports Minister of Pakistan Pir Aftab Shah Jilani said.

"A decision would be taken whether to send our team to India after considering all the aspects," The News quoted Jilani, as saying.

Hockey tour to India in Pak Government’s hand, says PHF chief

Kuala Lumpur, Dec. 20: Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) chief Qasim Zia has said that the final decision on whether to send their national hockey team on a tour to India rests on the government.

He said that the PHF will abide by the decision of the government.

"Pakistan team's tour of India would depend on the final decision from the government and if government allows, the team would tour as per schedule," the News quoted Zia, as saying.

Earlier, Pakistan Sports Minister Aftab Shah Jilani had expressed that the PHF should not sent Pakistan hockey team on Indian tour, as the Indian government didn't allow its cricket team to tour Pakistan.

Coyotes lose Jokinen to shoulder injury

PHOENIX, Nov. 27  -- A left shoulder injury will cause Phoenix Coyotes center Olli Jokinen to miss at least two weeks, ending his streak of 397 consecutive games played.

The 11-year veteran remaining in the first period of Wednesday's 3-2 win against Columbus when he was checked into the boards by Blue Jackets defenseman Marc Methot.

The 215-pounder, a first-round draft pick by Los Angeles in 1997, last missed a game during the 2002-03 season while with the Florida Panthers.

MV Kaushik Appointed As New Coach By Indian Hockey

New Delhi: The endless wait is finally over. The selection committee of IHF, yesterday named M K Kaushik, as the chief coach of the national hockey team. The former Olympian has been appointed until the 2010 Asian Games. 

The committee, presided over by Ajitpal Singh and attended by all members -- Aslam Sher Khan, Ashok Kumar, Zafar Iqbal and Dhanraj Pillay -- also finalised a list of 48 probables for upcoming international events. Along with this the committee also decided to retain the services of AK Bansal for coaching the junior national team till the next year's World Cup to be held in Singapore and Malaysia.

'Hockey India' Will Host 2010 World Cup

Indian hockey federation will now be known as “Hockey India” that will host World Cup men’s hockey in 2010. All the state hockey boards will be soon brought under the umbrella of Hockey India.
