On Friday, when dollar slid due to economic worries and signs of strengthening in investment demand as the recession deepened, it enhanced appeal of gold as an alternative investment. The futures contracts for Gold ended higher.

Since disruption turmoil in the financial markets and fears over the outlook for the global economy boost bullion's appeal, the demand for investment in the precious metal remains strong. In the recent times, demand for physical gold from ETFs has been a major factor supporting prices.

An open offer was made by Daiichi Sankyo to Zenotech Laboratories' shareholders at Rs 113.62 per share. This comes after it revised its earlier open offer price of Rs 160 per share.

Jayaram Chigrupati, MD, Zenotech Laboratories reacted to the development, "The agreement on open offer price was reached in July 2008. The agreed price was reached after shareholders filed a case post the Ranbaxy-Daiichi deal. The suit was withdrawn after Daiichi agreed to open offer price of Rs 160 per share."

With the aim to buy a $225m stake in an Indian mobile phone company, Bahrain's national telecommunications operator has joined hands with a Dubai-based private equity business.

It was informed by Batelco (Bahrain Telecommunications Co) that it would take a 49 per cent stake together with Dubai's Millennium Private Equity in S Tel, an Indian mobile operator licensed to operate in six Indian states with a total population of about 230m people.
