Global sales of Samsung Galaxy S smartphones cross ‘100 million’ milestone

Global sales of Samsung Galaxy S smartphones cross ‘100 million’ milestoneIn a Monday account made with a series of images posted to Samsung's official Flickr account, the South Korean company revealed that the global sales of its Galaxy S smartphones had crossed the `100 million' milestone.

Announcing the major sales milestone achieved by the Galaxy S line of smartphones, which was launched in 2010, the pictures posted on Samsung's Flickr account showed a group of people holding up handsets with numbers written on each one with the collective figure reading "100,000,000."

Going by an Associated Press report, the model-wise sales of the Galaxy S line of smartphones revealed that over 25 million units of Galaxy S handsets have thus far been sold by Samsung worldwide; while the figures for the Galaxy S II and the Galaxy S III - which is the company's latest flagship handset - stood at 40 million units and 41 million units respectively.

The figures clearly show that the Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone has been a stupendous hit; with its global sales passing the 40-million mark in only seven months of its release. In comparison, its predecessor, the Galaxy SII, took almost 20 months to touch the same figure in global sales.

The sales figures underscore that the Galaxy S line of smartphones from Samsung has become one of the most popular handset brands running Google's Android mobile operating system; thereby helping Samsung become the top-ranking handset manufacturer 2012, dethroning Nokia from the spot for the first time in 14 years.
