Govt names Abhayahastam scheme after YSRIn a major move, the Andhra Pradesh government on Wednesday announced that it will rename the Abhayahastam programme as Y S Rajasekhara Reddy Abhayahastam programme.  

Confirming the development, V Vasant Kumar, State Rural Development Minister, said: “It was late YSR's strong wish to provide monthly pension to one crore women. We have decided to name the 'Abhaya Hastam' (benevolent hand) scheme after him. Accordingly, the scheme will be known as 'YSR Abhaya Hastam.”

Notably, the Y S Rajasekhara Reddy Abhayahastam programme will facilitate one crore women to receive pension and insurance benefits.  

However, the contribution amount of pension and insurance given to the women will differ with the age of the members.  

The state government had already made it clear that in case the beneficiary of this scheme dies, then it would provide financial help to family members of the deceased.  

Apart from this, the scheme will also offer scholarships to children between the age of 9-12.

Life Insurance Corporation of India will be running the whole scheme.  

The scheme will be implemented from November 1.
