Govt. to set up organisation to oversee expressways : Kamal Nath

Kamal Nath New Delhi, July 14 : Union Road Transport Minister Kamal Nath on Tuesday said that the Cente has plans to set up an organization to develop and manage expressways in the country.

"We are looking at setting up an Expressway Authority in the same line with NHAI (National Highway Authority of India) but distinct with the specifics with only building expressways. This is going to provide an impetus to those areas where expressways are required. We are looking at various models on how we partner with state government, with the private sector... in the next three months we will have a proper paper on it," said Kamal Nath on the sidelines of an industry conference in New Delhi.

Plans for the new organization will be ready in three months and then will be sent for Cabinet''s consideration, Nath added.

Replying to a question on the recent metro bridge mishap in the national capital, Nath said lessons should be taken from such accidents so that such incidents did not repeat in future.

"DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) is a very official and outstanding corporation. There are sometimes technological failures, you see sometimes technological failures, you see these happen all over the world. Something to be regretted and something to be learned from these incidents but there is no way that we should look at it as a setback, rather we should look at it as a lesson to be learned from it," said Nath.

An overhead bridge under construction gave way and crushed six workers to death on Sunday (July 12). Also, rescue cranes crashed at the same accident site injuring five workers on Monday (July 13). (ANI)
