Grapple with the big issues with a professional philosopher

Leipzig, Germany  - Guillaume Paoli, house philosopher at the central theatre in the German city of Leipzig, will be opening a philosophical practice in the coming weeks.

"It's about creating an opportunity in which people will be able to grapple with philosophical, cultural and cultural-political subjects," said Paoli in a conversation with the German Press Agency dpa. "It has absolutely nothing to do with therapy."

The practice is located in an administrative building of the theatre and will be open every Monday from 3:30 until 6:30 pm. There's no charge to visit the practice. The French-born Paoli has been the house philosopher at the Leipzig theatre for a year.

The co-founder of the nationwide movement called The Happily Unemployed belongs to a new team assembled by the theatre's artistic director Sebastian Hartmann. He founded a discussion group for the stage called the Society for the Verification of the Whole Purpose.

"I will continue to run the society, but I have noticed that there are people who don't have the confidence to participate in larger rounds of discussion," he said.

In his practice individual discussions are equally as welcome as group discussions.

"I have detected that there is a longing for discourse and exchange. I am not a teacher and I don't represent a certain ideology, rather I want to make it possible to have a discussion without predetermined subjects."

The actors and actresses employed by the theatre are also welcome to visit Paoli's practice. Many of them yearn for calm reflection, he said. (dpa)
