Gujarat to have eight new medical collegesAfter Medical Council of India's rejected the proposal by Gujarat government for setting up three new medical colleges in state, the government has decided to go on its own. As the government of state has decided, to set up eight new medical colleges in next two years. These new projects also include the proposals of three colleges which were sent to MCI for consent but were not approved eventually by the council.

Although the Gujarat government has already requested the MCI to reconsider the rejected proposal to be set up at Sola in Ahmedabad, Gotri in Vadodara and the K. J. Mehta medical college in Bhavnagar.

Besides these three, the locations for the other two colleges including one each at Patan and Vasad respectively the locations of the three others are still to be decided.

After the MCI chairman, Ketan Desai was arrested for graft charges, the MCI cancelled the previous permissions.
