Health Ministry goes up against joint entrance test

Health Ministry goes up against joint entrance testOn Friday the Union Health Ministry was apposing in the Supreme Court the Human Resource Development Ministry's step to launch an all-India joint entrance examination for entrance to engineering and medical classes from
2011-2012.

A Bench of Justices R. V. Raveendran and A. K. Patnaik produced notice to the Health Ministry, wanting its submissions in writing within 3 weeks time.

Superior counsel Altaf Ahmed, came into sight for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), filling the application, expressed that the joint examination shall ease students by giving multiple examinations.

At the time when Justice Raveendran inquired that whether there can be discrete counseling for admissions, the Health Ministry counsel stated out that even though if there was separate counseling for engineering and medical courses, there were specific practical and logistical complexities in placing such an examination (combining the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) and All India Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental test). He expressed that it shall be early to move ahead with such a joint test.
