27 new dengue cases push total to 6,100 in Delhi
New Delhi, Nov 19 : A total of 27 cases of dengue were reported in the capital Friday, taking the number of vector-borne cases this season to 6,100, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi reported.
Shahdara (north) zone in east Delhi was the worst affected with 844 cases so far, while Rohini zone was the second worst-hit with 774 cases of the disease.
Of the total cases, 38 dengue patients are from outside the city.
Though the dengue cases are on the decline now, the number of patients suffering from another vector-borne disease chikungunya, which causes fever and severe joints pain, has witnessed an increase.
According to the MCD report, the chikungunya cases this year stand at 60 so far while there were only 11 cases last year during the same period.
Chikungunya shares symptoms with dengue and it also causes a dip in platelet count.(IANS)
