Cow urine as anti-diabetic drug
Bangalore, June 7 : In a significant breakthrough in treatment of diabetics, the scientists in Bangalore have found that cow urine reduces the blood sugar level.
A study conducted by Professor K Jayakumar of the Government Veterinary College Bangalore has shown that cowâ€™s urine has anti-diabetic properties.
Talking to ANI Professor Jayakumar said that the research was in the preliminary stages but it was found that the cowâ€™s urine lowers the blood glucose level.
"It is to be investigated whether cowâ€™s urine stimulates beta cells, as in the case anti-diabeteic agents available in the market,â€ť he added.
Vidhya, a Phd scholar who is also working on this project found the tests on the rats showed very encouraging.
â€śThe activity was tested in experimentally induced diabetic rats. The rats were orally given a small dose of cowâ€™s urine daily. It was noticed that rats treated With the cowâ€™s urine had lower Blood-sugar level as compared to non -treated diabetic rats,â€ť Vidhya said.
The research will be completed within five years. The project is funded by the State Government with an allocation of Rs three crores over five years.(ANI)
