Malay couple comes up with recipe book that can help prevent blindness

Malay couple comes up with recipe book that can help prevent blindnessKuala Lumpur, September 7 : The passion for food and desire to raise awareness on eye diseases has prompted a couple to literally create “food for the eyes”.

Dr Kenneth Fong Choong Sian and Goo Chui Hoong have come up with ‘Food for Your Eyes’ a book that highlights basic facts about common eye diseases, including Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD), and how food can help prevent or reduce the risk of blindness.

The book contains over 50 recipes from breakfast right up to dinner and dessert - all home-made recipes created by Goo.

Each of the recipe’s has been tried and tested at the couple’s home.

Dr Fong said AMD was the leading cause of blindness among those aged 60 and above.

“My patients always ask me what they can or cannot eat,” Star Online quoted him as saying.

“There are also a lot of myths about what is good and what is not for certain eye problems.

“We came out with this book to share healthy tips. It also educates the public about the common eye diseases.

“It took us about a year to come up with the book,” he said.

The book was launched at At19 Culinary Studio in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.

“The recipes are simple, easy to read and easy to make,” Goo said.

She added that the recipes were mainly Asian-based. (ANI)
